Where do you shoot?
All closeup portrait sessions are shot in my indoor home studio located near McBain, Michigan. While many other sessions are located in and around our very own property which includes a beautifully manicured green lawn, small creek, open fields, woods and trails here in Northern Michigan. My favorite places for families and seniors are my yard, your home or cottage, and around our beautiful local area of lakes, streams, fields and woods. While most people love to stay close to home for convenience, I will travel to a special location for a session if requested. This includes studio setups on location for business portraits.
What do we wear?
I am always asked ‘What should I/we wear?” and “How many outfit changes do I/we get?” With business portraits, families, senior, children sessions and more, I always chat with you on the phone and offer you outfit guidelines based on my suggestions. Regarding family sessions, I ask that you come to the session wearing what you intend to be photographed in. There is not much time in a family session for outfit changes. You are welcome to bring accessories like a jacket, scarf or a fun hat to finish off your look. Color coordination is always a plus and having the family or kids in a particular outfit matching the season is always a winner. Look at my galleries to get inspiration!
Here are a few guidelines for clothing choices that should help. Please stay away from logos as they are always distracting. White tends to be too bright and does not photograph well in many situations. All shirts should be freshly ironed. Jeans are always fun and can be mixed with just about anything. Layers are my favorite! They give depth and texture to an image, plus they are fun to work with. Pair a nice t-shirt with a button up or a sweater and then add a jacket and a scarf to top it off. Chunky necklaces are awesome and photograph nicely.
Complimentary colors work better than everything the same color. If you or your children have very distinct eye color, clothing that matches looks really nice and brings out the eyes. If you are a family and are struggling to find just the right outfit for your session you can try this. Find a dress or top in a pattern for one family member and work off of that. Next build colors and textures that complement each other. Pick one color out of that and go with it! You’ll get a nice color palette of outfits while avoiding the dreaded “everyone looks the exact same!” If you wear transitioning prescription glasses, please don’t use them for our session. If you’ve got another pair, feel free to bring them or please don’t wear them at all. For further clothing samples look at the galleries on my website. Another helpful tip is to go on Pinterest and look at inspiration boards like Cute Family Outfits, Inspirational Family Photos, Outfits for Headshots and have fun with it! Bring your own unique vibe to your portrait session.
How do we make a payment or place a deposit?
We accept checks or good ole fashion cash. Credit cards are also accepted and an additional 3.5% is added for this option.
When will we see our images?
Business head shot session proofs arrive within 2 - 4 days of the session and delivery of final shots, once chosen, typically arrive approx. 3 - 4 days after that. Family, senior, children and other sessions can take up to around 2-4 weeks for your proofs to be ready to view online.
Things to know…
Well we do live in Michigan and the weather can change quickly. Rescheduling due to inclement weather can happen. It is at the sole discretion of the photographer and will be rescheduled at another time. If you’ve booked a session and need to reschedule, please try to give at least 24-hour advance notice.
A full tummy helps keep babies and children happy and satisfied during the session. Men a good tip is to bring chap stick!
